Types of Truck Accidents
Tractor-trailers are very large, very heavy vehicles. They are very difficult to drive, but truck drivers are required to obtain a proper license in order to drive them. This is one of the reasons that most truck accidents are caused by the drivers of smaller, passenger vehicles on the road, not the driver of the truck.
Truck accidents are always catastrophic simply due to their sheer size and weight. There have been a number of different kinds of truck accidents seen on our highways. One is the underride accident. In an underride situation, the driver of the smaller passenger vehicle fails to see the lights on the side of the trailer, and drives right under the trailer. This type of accident can result in the decapitation of the driver or passenger of the smaller vehicle.
Another type of truck accident is the rollover. This type of accident often occurs when trucks are overloaded and the weight shifts, causing the trailer to tip, or when tractor-trailers are cut off by other vehicles and forced to try to stop quickly.
Also, the jackknife situation is a commonly occurring truck accident. This occurs most often when trucks are forced to stop quickly, causing their trailer to slide and create a complete roadblock. Jackknifed trucks can also result in an underride accident.
If you or a loved one has been injured or killed in a truck accident, please contact an experienced truck accident attorney in your area as soon as possible.
