Causes of Truck Accidents
Trucks, also called tractor-trailers, are a very common site on our highways. They are a key part of interstate commerce. They are, however, just like any other vehicle on the road, involved in accidents. Due to the sheer size of tractor-trailers, accidents involving trucks are almost always catastrophic, and more often than not, truck accidents result in the death of the driver of the other vehicle.
Truck accidents are caused by a number of things including:
- Speeding
- Overloaded trucks
- Larger blind spots
- Impaired drivers
- Fatigued drivers
Trucking companies often make more money the more goods they deliver and the faster they deliver them. For this reason, truck drivers are often on strict deadlines and do not take the time to get the appropriate amount of rest. Also, the truck companies make an effort to deliver the most goods possible, and this leads to an increase of overloaded trucks on the road.
Drivers of passenger vehicles can also cause accidents with trucks, but regardless of whose fault it is, truck accidents are always disastrous. Another common cause of truck accidents is when drivers of passenger vehicles fail to realize that tractor-trailers make very wide right-hand turns, resulting in a T-bone sort of accident. Also, cars sometimes cut off trucks, forcing the trucks to maneuver quickly, which, because of their size, can result in a rollover.
